According to Savills, only 33% of completed house deals in Shropshire are made up of those already living within the county, which leaves the other two thirds moving to the county from elsewhere.
Apart from other neighbouring counties in the West Midlands, the most common place where people are relocating to Shropshire from is Greater London, accounting for 9% of all house deals. Cheshire is second with a 6% share of them all.
Of all high-end homes within Shropshire, figures show that most of them are purchased by those aged between 40-59, accounting for 64% of all deals made.
With all this information, the high demand for properties in Shropshire is put into perspective and it’s easy to see why there’s such a buzz around the place. Those in the market for a new home are looking for improved quality of life, this being one of the county’s defining characteristics.
Peter Daborn, Director and Head of Residential Sales for Savills in Shropshire and Staffordshire, said:
“You have a wonderful lifestyle in Shropshire, some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK, brilliant towns, vibrant ones with a good social life.”
“People always used to refer to Shropshire as a hidden gem, but it has had a lot of national press in recent times, featuring with a lot of coverage like the loveliest villages to live in. So, it is no longer a hidden gem – it’s just a gem.”
Living within the area his whole life, Peter has embraced the external interest from other counties, helping them find their perfect home in the area.
“Shropshire is infectious. There’s so much here and we are finding you do get buyers from further afield. Over the last year, some 80 per cent of our buyers have been from outside the area, as was also the case in 2021.”
